Sometimes, a special soul crosses our path and often, we get but a brief glimpse. That was the case when I took my cats to the vet for their annual check- ups. We were waiting to be seen, as one of the treatment rooms opened and a man led his golden retriever out and to reception infront of us. Everyone's eyes focussed on the beautiful dog with his shining coat. He was calm, none of the usual doggy- excitement. He looked at everyone with his kind, soulful eyes and then back up to his owner. The dog's demeanor made me think he must be fairly old, showing such calmness and kindness. Just then, the receptionist voiced what everyone was probably thinking:
"Such a lovely dog. An old soul. And he's only two years old!"
I drew this sketch of him in my diary, from memory. It felt like one of those moments that will stay with me for life.
